Feed Thy Enemy
Novel - to be published by Creativia Publishing, 2019
Feed thy Enemy is a story of courage and compassion in the face of extreme trauma during World War II and one man’s struggle to overcome Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder during his post-war life.
The novel is based on my father’s war service (1940-1945) as a Rear Gunner (RAF) in North Africa and, following a desert crash in which he was the only survivor, an Aircraft Hand in Tunis and Italy. Thirty years on, an unforeseen change of holiday destination leads to a chance meeting in a Naples street and an emotional reunion with the Italian family he supplied with stolen and black-market food during 1944.
My father died in 1978 but following my mother's death in 2009, I discovered pertinent documents that enabled me to write Feed thy Enemy. Names have been changed to protect those persons still living. Photographs and a small painting signed and dated May 1944, complement the text, as does the author afterword An Ordinary Man.
